BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Nafisa Shazia

President and Treasurer

Nafisa is a software engineer at Google, with a penchant for diving into technical and quantitative domains. She joined the SoundBio Lab Board of Directors in the summer of 2024 and serves as the current Treasurer. In this role, she is committed to responsibly managing and steering the organization's finances into the future. In her free time, Nafisa enjoys reading literature, attempting higher level mathematics, and otherwise being a multidisciplinary lifelong learner.

Jean-Dominique Bonnet

Vice President and Education and Outreach Chair

Jean is a licensed professional engineer who gets in a flow state dealing with ecology, community-based initiatives, and accessibility. He wants to democratize science with seats at your local lab for people to be inquisitive, hands-on, and delighted by learning. Jean also enjoys persuading houseplants to stay alive and being active on a trail/mountain whether the weather is behaving or not.

Jaqueline (Jaq) Zdebski

Board Secretary

Jaqueline (Jaq) is a research scientist at the University of Washington’s RAPID Facility. With over two decades of experience in maker spaces and scientific communities, Jaq is passionate about fostering innovation and accessibility in STEM. Outside of work, she enjoys running, off-road motorcycling, camping, and volunteering in community arts.

 

Seth Barribeau

Lab & Research Committee Chair

Seth trained in evolutionary biology, studying everything from ants to snakes before venturing into the far more perilous world of human biology and biotech startups. Seth is passionate about helping scientists translate their research into real-world impact and building inclusive scientific communities. When not immersed in data and biology, he enjoys spending time with family, friends, and dogs, and traveling whenever possible.

Mike Coleman 

Lab & Research Committee Secretary

Mike Coleman (he/him) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nutrition at the Gillings School of Global Public Health and the School of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His research explores how metabolism shapes the immune system’s ability to fight cancer.

Having recently moved to Seattle, Mike is excited to share his passion for science in his role as Secretary of the Lab & Research Committee. Outside the lab, he can usually be found experimenting in the kitchen or hiking with his dog, Monty.

Sunehri Nog

Board Director

Sunehri has been working with SoundBio since 2022. She started out as the newsletter writer and now runs the Life Science Explorers Program looking to bring STEM opportunities to everyone. She is looking to pursue a pre-med track along with expanding her hobby of cooking and trying inventive new recipes!

Anna Tonkonogui

Development Committee

Anna joined the SoundBio Lab Board in 2025. A program manager who plays in both the tech and biotech spaces, she thrives on sinking her fingers into complex problems. Her background includes learning development, biotechnology, software and engineering, emergency response, communications, and project management. She has supported product releases, written code, built robots and art cars, managed and worked with volunteers, and responded with Search and Rescue. In her free time, Anna trains in taijiquan, aerials, and CrossFit, voraciously learns new skills, and enjoys strategy board games.

Rosie Buckley

Board Director

Rosie has worked with 25 life science companies, generating and advancing value‑creation opportunities across multiple indications and therapeutic areas, often in emerging or novel modalities preparing for market entry. Rosie is energized by the analytical components that shape scientific and business strategy. She has collaborated with start‑ups, mid‑size and large pharma, venture capital groups, and consulting firms, and has contributed to global merger and reverse‑merger program offices. Together with her husband and two sons, she enjoys all sorts of puzzles, especially escape rooms.

Dezmond Goff (They/Them), SBL Lab Manager

Dezmond is the Lab Manager at SoundBio Lab. Before joining our team, they worked on numerous projects ranging from the effects of nitrogen pollution on mountain soils to coral reef restoration and disease research to independent and collaborative projects in cutting-edge machine learning. They are excited by the potential of science education and open-source technology to activate our communities to make meaningful change in our own lives. You might often see them dancing to the perpetual soundtrack in their head.
